from Fergus Falls to Osakis (www.CentralLakesTrail.com). Biking is a highlight in
Fergus Falls and important to residents and visitors alike having just been named
a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community.
Winter weather doesn’t mean relocating to the indoors. Frostbite Festival
February 5-7 (Super Bowl Weekend) is a winter wonderland of activity. And
when the snow is right, treat yourself to cross country skiing in the beautiful sugar
maple hills north of Fergus Falls. Spidahl’s Ski Gaard offers 20 km of groomed
trails, a warming house, cozy fire and equipment rental (www.SkiGaard.com).
For a little more speed bring your snowmobile to Otter Tail County. The 350 miles
of groomed trails provide several routes, options and terrain for your enjoyment.
A gem of our system is Maplewood State Park with over 20 miles of trail within its
park boundary. Scenic views from Inspiration Peak are also a highlight.
Fergus Falls is part of the Prairie Pothole Region, best depicted at the Prairie
Wetlands Learning Center. Offering 330 acres of native and restored oak
savannah and 28 wetlands, there is also an indoor education center and gift shop.
The 3.5 miles of foot trails are a perfect route for a sunset stroll (please, no pets).
Birds are abundant in the area and the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center is one
of the 45 sites on the Pine to Prairie Birding Trail. With 200 miles, there are many
opportunities to spot one of the 275 species along the trail (www.MNBirdTrail.com).
